The only thing I've seen him in besides Sherlock is some Victorian thing about prostitutes (Scarlet something and White...), the first ten minutes or so of which I could bear to watch before just giving up in horror at the icky Victorianness of it all. But Gatiss looked splendid in 19th Century white tie and tails.

So no. I have no concept of him as scary--except scary-smart. Now I'm kind of curious.
