What a great story! Thanks for passing it along. It's taken them longer to paint the bridge than it took them to build it! And I can't help noticing that the turning point--the thing that allows them to stop painting it for a while--is a new type of paint. New technology, an actual improvement in the tools and materials, new approaches--that is how we gain efficiency, not by overexploiting the limits of human endurance. Geez.
