Isn't that an interesting idea? If I actually had to pedal a bike in order to turn on the lights or charge my phone, wow! I just love how innovative and creative people are. Very often I'll read about some new invention or idea (a lot of them in the bike world) and negative comments will say, basically, "Well, I wouldn't use that, so therefore it's a crap idea," or (more commonly), "That doesn't monolithically solve every single problem I can think of in the category of problems it's aimed at solving, so it's a crap idea."

And to me, it's like, what an amazing world, that can produce a solution that would serve some people, maybe just a minority market, or suit a small but real niche, without relying on giant corporate backing. And who knows? That "crap" idea that might, indeed, never be marketable as conceived might form the foundation for something brilliant! The Apple Newton is the high-tech case in point, but history and the patent office are full of "failed" inventions that led to world-changing variations.
