There's not enough weekend in the weekend
Hello, Flist! I've been reading your journals and keeping up with the news and views from LJ-land, though I haven't had much time to comment. I finally feel unwound enough to start my weekend! Too bad it's Sunday night, huh?
Pot of pork and beans in the oven, glass of amber ale by my elbow, Life on Mars 1.2 on my laptop, and...*looks at clock*...about four more hours of freedom. No wait--there's laundry and dishes. So make that two more hours. *glum*
Things I hear rumblings of from my distant and muffled perch on the project at work:

Things I hear rumblings of from my distant and muffled perch on the project at work:
- Tina Fey...Sarah Palin...something?
- Something about the stock market?
- Wait--summer's over?
- What mortgage company?
- Jensen Ackles...black and white...lederhosen?

Pssst. It's October. And not even *early* October, at that.

:)
But, you know, likely Democratic landslide in a few weeks, so at least we'll be riding over the cliff with better drivers than before, eh?

I hope you're right about the landslide. Not that I think Obama can really DO much with the raw material he's inheriting, but at least we can gloat on the way down...

If I were merely an objective observer who didn't give a shit about the world, and this were merely an academic exercise, I'd almost want to see the Rethugs win, just to see the epic catastrophe that would be a McCain/Palin Administration. It comes from the same human instinct that makes people turn to look as they drive past a particularly grisly car crash (to continue the car metaphor). What my high school English teacher would've called "the fascination with the abomination".
But I remain ever the pathological optimist, and I am therefore doomed to hope that Obama can actually save us from ourselves.
I also still believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. (The Tooth Fairy, however, is on my shit list.)

Is your icon really saying, "And now for something completely different"?
