Drinks with the girls
For a Wednesday, this was a damn good day. It was, for one thing, bright and clear. And Groundhog Day, which is a favorite of mine among minor holidays.
I became a great-aunt this morning at about 6:00, when my niece gave birth to a healthy baby boy. While I'm not a goo-goo-ga-ga baby person, I'm pleased for my niece, her husband, and my older sis, who relishes the grandmama role.
Two shrinking coworkers and I ended up having a terrific conversation about how very different losing weight feels this time compared to our various past attempts--how after years of working for self-acceptance at a higher weight, suddenly this past autumn it just came over us: time to make the change. We've each lost over thirty pounds so far.
I felt as if I made friends with them--bonded a bit with them--over it, and we ended up deciding to organize a lunchtime support group. Apparently a LOT of fat is being lost around the place.
Then, after work, I was invited to join a band of very clever, awesome women in a farewell cocktail for another coworker moves to a new job tomorrow. We drank alcohol by the fireplace in the Heathman lobby bar, and they dished dirt on my organization that I had no idea about. A second bonding experience in one day. It was great!
My ride home, at 7:30, was traffic-free, the night was clear and still, and the city looked really shiny.
