11/20 Territory

This is what the porch is for.
Looking out from an old-fashioned front porch at a damp front yard towards the street in Northeast Portland. A big red bike and an empty flower pot are on the porch
A still, damp, cool early evening in September. An armchair, a book, neighbors walking their dogs or riding their bikes...

...and cats.

Graydie the gray cat who lives here confronts Ivy the black cat who wants to live here, on the front porch
Graydie emerged from the house to find Ivy poaching on her territory. She wasn't happy.

Graydie the gray cat makes threatening go-away moves towards Ivy the black cat, who cowers politely
Graydie: "Git, you!"

Ivy: "Okey dokey." *bides her time*

Ivy the black cat walks small across the front yard
Ivy: *pretends to walk small* "It's really just that the grass is wet."

Graydie the gray cat watches to make sure Ivy the black cat has slunk away
Graydie: "And stay away!"

Ivy: "What you don't know is that I've figured out the cat door that you're scared of."

Ivy the black cat hides under some shrubs while Graydie the gray cat keeps an eye on things
Graydie: "That's right. Cower."

Ivy: *whistles* "Just getting out of the rain."

Ivy the black cat with glowy eyes bides her time under the shrubs
Ivy: "Any minute now she's gonna get bored, then FOOD FOR ME!"
