And in the "Hallelujah" department...

Finally.

Goodbye, porta-potty!

It's all coming together now!

This has been in a shipping box in the basement for so long, I'd nearly forgotten what it looked like. The surface it sits on will be covered with more of the little white pebbles.

Washer and dryer go under this counter, and a cabinet will go above the window.

Still to go:
  • Install bamboo floor
  • Install cabinet
  • Install faucets and showerhead
  • Paint and install pocket door
  • Have gas plumbing inspected
  • Cross fingers
  • Turn on gas
  • Have hot water
  • Clean up the enormous mess throughout my house and yard.

I'm back to living in my house, though I still have to shower at the gym or at my sister's. Monsoon will be able to come home in a few days, maybe in time for Christmas. And tomorrow morning? No staggering outside in the freezing dawn. Because I finally have a toilet again!

Yay!

I love your sink! I'm all excited too!!

omg! that sink is freakin' awesome! and the faucet! eeeee!!

It IS awesome, isn't it? I've been wanting one of those above-the-counter sinks for years. And the faucet that comes out of the wall. The first ones I ever saw cost bazillions of dollars. They've become more common now, and both this basin and the faucets were pretty reasonable.

I turned on the water this evening. Just reflex, you know--the faucets were on temporarily to check for fit, and my hand just reached for one, and whoops! Totally no drain hooked up yet. Ed had to stick a bucket under there.

Hee hee hee! Girls! We get so excited about this stuff. I love my sink too. I looked long and hard at stone basins and fancy metal ones and glass ones, but ended up (on the very sound advice of the designer) with basic white that matches the tub, the toilet, my towels...and the whole "simple" feel of the bathroom.

It's fucking amazing, though, how much "simple" costs.

Ooooo! This all looks lovely. I really like the sink design.

[identity profile] emeraldsedai.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
The sink is getting high marks all around! Thanks. It's starting to be real at last.

Yay! Goodbye to the portaloo. I was a bit worried for you in the snow. (It has snowed once in Sydney in the last 40 years, so I tend to think of snow as exotic and hazardous).

And I have to join the chorus of ♥ for the sink. My SO just walked by and said 'What are you looking at? What a great sink!', so it is unanimous. :)

Such good taste, all around the world!

Glad you like. And I don't miss the snow. We're back to rain, in good old Yuletide fashion for the Pacific Northwest.

Woo. Nice sink.

That list still looks a bit scary though. *crosses fingers for you*

Hee. And woooot!

[identity profile] executrix.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Hurrah! It's practically...allegorical...the return of Light, Hope, Civilization, and Plumbing as the days lengthen.

[identity profile] emeraldsedai.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That crossed my mind.

I'm so happy to wave farewell to the outhouse!

[identity profile] emeraldsedai.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the cheer! It's a good day. Seems fitting, as [livejournal.com profile] executrix comments, that the return of civilized amenities coincides with the return of light to the world.

Yes, I've been quietly obsessing over the gas permit myself.

But then, I obsessed over my passport, and over buying an unlocked GSM phone, and over my car, and really, everything tends to work out fine. Hopefully this won't be the exception.

Looking good! ^_^

[identity profile] emeraldsedai.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been imagining it finished for so long that actually having the main fixtures in place, but not yet having full use of the space, is driving me crazy. It's sooooo tantalizing!

But we're only a few days away from completion now.

[identity profile] kispexi2.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Shhhh! They can hear you.

[identity profile] emeraldsedai.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no response to that, but there aren't that many opportunities for me to use this icon.

[identity profile] kispexi2.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. Is that your new shower cap?

[identity profile] emeraldsedai.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn. I'm lacking a sticking-out-tongue icon (not counting this one picture of Sean, which does NOT convey quite what I mean.)

[identity profile] kispexi2.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, go on! You find me irresistible!

[identity profile] emeraldsedai.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
That's a fact.
