16/30 Sleepy Hollow again

Oh dear God, I don't know if I can do this. I'm about 66% of the way through episode 2, and it is so bad that not even Tom Mison's nose can redeem it. Is it just me?

Apart from Crane's absurd ability to absorb 21st Century culture, and the historical inaccuracies (which I can forgive because I'm forgiving, but really? a guy from 1776 would be just as impressed with matches as with light switches), it's the cliché shots, the characters' ridiculous leaps of logic ("What was the magistrate's name? Hey, that's the name of the guy in burnt up Volvo OMG let me take a small step and behold conclusions!"), the exposition...

Okay, the things I like are Crane's Enlightenment-era bursts of oratory, Abbie's kickass no-bullshit-ness, how the guy playing George Washington really looks like the dollar bill, John Cho being back, Abbie just generally, Mison's voice and...yep. That's kind of it. Okay, the maleficent witch's recreation of her body was pretty cool.

I can put up with the Dan Brown-based through-line, and maybe even "the blood moon," but I am so uninterested in witches screaming Romany curses on the flaming stake, a "coven of beneficent witches," the late Mrs Crane and her unpersuasive English accent, Abbie's ex-BF being on the force, any will-they-won't-they crap between Abbie and Crane.

Okay. I'm going to finish this ep, but...I waited excitedly all week for this?

ETA: Good ending though. Clancy Brown again! And Jennifer. Huh.

Haha. The irony, of course, is that Mrs Crane was actually raised in England.

But yes, what a ridiculous episode of what will clearly be a ridiculous show. I mean, I was predicting that it would be a good bad show, but if they're already struggling, my goodness and alas. Still, Mison's nose is worthy of comment, and Beharie is very good, but the writing is very poor indeed. I'm not certain where they're pitching this show, but their respect for their target audience must be very low indeed. What a mess.

See other comment. You don't expect anything else when Orci and Kurtzman are involved *G*

It's Orci and Kurtzman. Their respect for their target audience is on the native side of the scale. They've been taking good ideas and ruining them since the days of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
