Basically, I rule.

Doctor Who 5.02. No spoilers or deep thinky thoughts here, just a stand up and cheer because that is the way to write sci-fi. Terrify the crap out of me, make me cry, make me think, point out my fundamental flaws as a citizen or even as a human being, make me stand up and cheer, and do it with intrepid, awesome women characters.

"Liz Ten, Yeah. I'm the bloody queen, mate. Basically, I rule." Cheesy, but again, I don't care. She was awesome. ETA Did you see her BOOTS? Excellent boots.

The Star Wars references charmed me, the turny-head booth creatures freaked me out, and I'm just going to have to make I just made an icon out of the Abdicate button. Angry, angry Doctor made me twitch a little: "Nobody human has anything to say to me today!"



I'm sort of in love with this new series.

I love having a companion who thinks for herself and stands up to the Doctor effectively. Donna and Ten were mates, buddies, but it seems as if Amelia and Eleven may become friends (he so needs a friend.)

Amy/Amelia is shaping up to be my favorite companion. I've really liked all of them, but the fact that we met Amy as Amelia at the age of, what, nine or whatever, and that she was unfrightened then, and remains fearless now--well, it's an awesome example of a good way to write women and girls, and I wish Supernatural other shows would take lessons.

I enjoyed most of the Tenth Doctor's series and companions very much, but this script was fabulous and so was the one last week, so I have great hope for the remixed writing/production team. I love Matt Smith's physical acting style. He's hyperkinetic, but it's as if his head is always still and we never lose sight of his eyes. Very affecting actor.

He's as much of a delight in his way as David Tennant was when we first met him. His acting style is quite different, and though he easily brings that manic energy that Tennant had, he brings it...differently. I'm not enough of an acting critic to say exactly how, but I'm finding him both likeable/adorkable, and powerful. I really recommend you give it a shot.

The new steampunkified TARDIS is fantastic, too.
