Podfic recording question

What do people use to record podfic?

Are little handheld digital voice recorders adequate for good playback sound? This is an area of utter and total ignorance for me--so much so that I'm overwhelmed even googling it and need some personalized hand-holding.

I have no idea how the quality of my (very few) recordings compares* with others but, for the record, I use this Olympus digital recorder, but with a microphone I bought separately. I actually bought the recorder for other purposes - I like to record sounds as I travel.




*I'm a freak who doesn't like listening to podfic, but who enjoys reading aloud...

Digital audio recording

Anne, i have to rave about my m-audio digital recorder. It is the size of a cell phone, though thicker. Can record mp3, wav and other formats. I use it to record a whole class, session, whatever is needed and the quality is excellent. I paid $299 several years ago, so I am sure that they are cheaper than the price on the m-audio website.
