29/10/04 13:56I remember reading Bellow's Henderson The Rain King in college. Not for college, because why would I waste my time doing assigned reading? Probably just to impress my friend Anne-Marie, who had read it--and she'd probably read it to impress me.
I haven't re-read it since, but sometimes it comes back to mind--on days like today when there's this person looking out through the eyes in my big head and saying, "I want, I want, I want..." just like Henderson.
What do I want? Not a damn thing when I really think about it. Except maybe some more coffee. Not enough to buy a ticket to Africa, the way Henderson did in the book. Maybe enough to splurge on some stupid purchase. Like the brand-new domain name I bought on a whim last night: www.slashtheworld.com.
