Food Feed

Plea to my übersmart flist: can someone help me understand how feeds/RSS work?

llaras suggested I create a feed from my Politicook diaries back to LJ, and after some rather bleary-eyed searching in the help files of both LiveJournal and WordPress, I'm still in the dark.

Anyone? Any ideas on how something like that might work?
