I'm looking for a song. I don't know which one, so I need your help. I'm looking for a non-religious song with lyrics having to do with redemption, someone saving someone emotionally, helping, offering a hand and a heart, letting the other person know s/he's going to be okay and isn't alone, lifting someone up, giving someone hope for the future.

That sort of thing.

It's for my Podbang entry. The author specified song lyrics for 11 out of 12 chapters but told me she drew a blank on the one, and said "go for it". I've been googling my little heart out, but popular music, she is very very big.

Suggestions? Moodier is better, but upbeat is possible too. Country, rock, pop, soul, blues, folksy--I welcome any ideas.

TIA flist-o-mine!

The one that immediately comes to mind is I Will Hold On (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7A4Tx2Xlohw) by Moxy Fruvous. Dunno if the mood is right, but the sentiment seems to be mostly what you're looking for.

I can upload the song for reals if you/author want it.

That's really good! And the mood is right. I like it! See? I knew I'd find out about some good music. I just...wouldn't have known to google Moxy Fruvous, you know?

Thank you!

Woo! I know pretty much no music but I always liked that song and thought it could make a good vid for the right fandom/characters.

You're good with the lyrics? Or would you like the song if you're doing some sort of fanmix thing where people can dl the songs that go with each chapter?

I'll get the song--I'm all about paying the big $1.29 at iTunes or amazon.com. The story itself uses a stanza or so as each chapter header, and for the podfic, I'm fading up into each of the actual songs as the bridge from chapter to chapter.

It's a really good story and I can't wait to get it out there so I can talk about it!

I'll probably have more (and better) suggestions, but "This Is Love" by Mary Chapin Carpenter immediately popped into my head from reading your criteria.

Oh, I love her voice. That song is damn near perfect for my needs.

Time's been here to fix what's broken with its power and the love that
Smashed us both to bits spent its last few hours calling out your name,
And I thought, this is the kind of pain from which we don't recover

But I'm standing here now with my heart held out to you
You would have thought a miracle was all that got us through
Well baby, all I know, all I know is I'm still standing

Thank you! That really is spot on!

Oooh, great suggestion. I'm listening to the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole [had to look that up!] version (he had such a beautiful voice).

This section in particular might be perfect:

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Heh -- tonight's ep of Glee just reminded me of another: "I'll Stand By You" by The Pretenders.

A lot of her music would probably fit, actually.

Just listened a couple of times to the live version you linked to. Wow. What a performer. And what a great song.

*sniffs and wipes away some tears*

Thank you.

Oh my! That's amazing--and very much the kind of voice that goes with the story, which is dark-but-redemptive (and post apocalyptic).

Thank you. What a find.

Just found "Up To The Mountain," which would not only also work well with this story (which has a long journey in it toward salvation), but has me hooked on her voice. I can't believe I don't know her music.

Well, I can, because me and music broke up some time ago, but I still love it and I'm thinking of getting back together.

She's an amazing songwriter--her music has been covered by the Dixie Chicks, Linda Rondstadt, Emmylou Harris, and even Bette Midler.

(Did I say amazing? I meant brilliant. One of the best artists out there.)

Apparently, that came to several minds! It's a great song. The songs that make people tear up and cause everyone to roll their eyes and say, "Cheesy!" usually are.

How the HELL did I not think of that one? That's the anthem of my junior high years.

Great suggestion. Wow. I think I could really use that. Oooh! Thanks!

I don't think I've ever heard that Indigo Girls song. I'm at work and can't listen right now, but the words are beautiful. I think they might be too romantic for the chapter in question (which doesn't actually involve a pairing, but a child and a grownup), but if I ever saw Sam/Dean lyrics, those are it!

Hm. I might be able to work this one in somewhere. Thank you for the great suggestion.

Someone To Save You by OneRepublic goes down as one of my favorite songs of all time.

And I'm sure I have more but right now, I'm on a OneRepublic kick, so...I got nothin'. LOL

Oh, that's excellent! The songs people have suggested are all just wonderful. This stanza in particular is very apt to the story:

All right
Sit down and spill your heart
Lets start from the very start
Cause i can see by your eyes
You're wasted
Your energy comes and goes
You taking your time, you know
Nothing can change what happened, you know

I'm looking forward to listening to this one (instead of just reading the words) when I get home.

Thank you. I'm getting so much great music out of this request!

Yay! Very glad you liked it; OneRepublic is just so heart-wrenchingly beautiful sometimes. I've enjoyed going through the comments: there's been some great music recommended!

If you liked the lyrics, the least I can do is send you the song, so ta da! I hope it sounds as beautiful as it looks to you. (I say it definitely does, but don't take my word for it. ^_^)

Thank you! I'll download it when I'm home from work. Looking forward to listening. I promise to buy a legit copy if I use it in the podfic (or if I just decide I'd like to listen to it my own self!).

Thanks again.

As you said in chat, that could actually be an overarching song for the whole story!
