What a day! What a day!
The sun came out. The temperature rose. I feel fantastic.
I rode Eleanor O to my haircut appointment, across town through some groovy neighborhoods. I passed a trio of Portland hipsters just getting ready to set out on their bikes, and we exchanged a good morning. They said, "Nice bike!" as I rode by, and when I was past, one of them started singing the Wicked Witch of the West theme--which...okay, I'll assume it was good natured...so I said over my shoulder, "Yeah, that's my ringtone."
Got a good haircut. It's amazing how much product one-inch long hair will take. Seriously. I'm starting to understand Dean Winchester on a follicular level.

Did some errands on the way home, including a stop at a nursery. I have nine hanging pots around the beam of my porch that need filling with colorful annuals, and I was wondering how I was going to get nine x whatever mix of flowers home. I thought, hm...bike trailer? Have to use a Zip Car? Then it dawned on me: multiple trips!

(Note my new cupholder there on the handlebars. That is the kind of bike-riding I do.)
That's two pots right there. Next trip: I can fit four in the front basket and probably three in the back, and voilĂ ! Nine porch pots. Plus neighborhood ride.
Laundry's on the line and drying fast. My sister's honeybees are buzzing. I'm heading back out now for seven more sets of flowers. Man, *these are the good old days.

13/6/10 17:45 (UTC)My sister said, "You should totally keep those pots in your basket and water them all summer long," but I need the basket for actual stuff.

13/6/10 22:27 (UTC)Your haircut rocks too... I sometimes think about getting mine cut short but I need haircuts at least once ever 4-5 weeks... fast growing hair! ... back before the hippie days I always kept mine short... people, upon seeing pix from that era, would query "is that your brother?" =)
Wait... your sister has beehives??

13/6/10 22:45 (UTC)Yep, my sister has a humungous honeybee hive in her back yard. I've seen honeybees, probably from it, in my yard this spring for the first time in years (we're close neighbors). Here's a picture of one of the hive-pod things:
They're really fascinating to watch.

13/6/10 23:14 (UTC)I remember, as a little girl (hundreds of years ago), having to tread carefully across patches of clover busy with honeybees.
Now, I have to search many a clover patch to find even ONE lone honeybee! =(
So, yeah, how cool that you get to see them happily buzzing around!
(another great pic, btw)

13/6/10 23:24 (UTC)My sister feels that the keeping of honeybees is one of the most important acts she can do for the environment. I'm inclined to agree, and she's just the right person to do it. You should see her--she's just nuts about her little bees, and they seem to know her. It's amazing.

15/6/10 23:04 (UTC)My grampa kept bees when I was little and I remember him getting all ~covered up~ in his bee suit and hat to check the bees or smoke them to get the honey... and getting to eat honey comb (I was his favorite) =)
How awesome that your sister is so dedicated!!
