Okay, yeah... that last pic is a touch intimidating =o

Nope. All the utilities are down there, so I can't just close it off (though I'd love to), and in the many years I've lived here, I've never come up with even a theory for a trap-door-slash-walkable floor that could cover it and still be raised for access. It's a miserable little add-on, one of those "make lemonade" things that I think must happen once in every house or yard.
