Lunchables

I feel like a little kid going back to school: I know my mom packed me a yummy lunch and now I'm waiting for the bell to ring so I can eat it.
Something about the autumn weather makes a packed lunch seem new and special again. I haven't been doing bento per se, but have instead branched out into a set of steel containers that I mix and match according to the meal. In general I try not to use disposable food containers, but today I have been so prosaic as to wrap a sandwich in waxed paper, faute de mieux.
Then I tie the components up in a bandanna and plop that into my bike basket, and really, the whole little-kid-going-to-school effect is complete...if that little kid had gray hair and a tricky knee.

So today's autumnal feast, which I am now looking at and really having to resist digging into, consists of, clockwise from the sandwich:
*Point of interest: that is the only decent picture I've ever taken with my Sony Ericsson phone.

So today's autumnal feast, which I am now looking at and really having to resist digging into, consists of, clockwise from the sandwich:
- Bratwurst-cheese-and-mustard sandwich on Udi's Gluten Free White Sandwich Bread (the first really breadlike GF bread I've found--expensive liek whoa, though, so I'm stingy with it)
- Steamed green beans (almost like candy)
- Concord grapes (purple tongue!)
- Yogurt with dried blueberries (which was breakfast)
- Homemade gluten-free peanut butter oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (really very much like candy)
