Holy shit, Rubicon

I've been watching Rubicon since the first ep, a weird, slow-moving, fascinating drama about...spies? conspiracy theories? It wasn't clear till this latest ep, but it kept being moody, and it was building slowly towards something--clues, interesting characters, beautiful cinematography, something developing.
Then wham! Episode 11. Whoa. Suddenly the whole story starts to knit together and now I can't wait for more.
So, at last we see that it IS a conspiracy, it's about Disaster Capitalism With An Extra Evil Twist in which several interconnected corporations actively encourage and even cause major disasters around the world in order to profit from them. Will is onto it now.
And dude. Kale? What language was he speaking on the phone before he went and did that utterly coldhearted, efficient cleanup of Will's apartment? With power saws? Looks like he left a spot of blood, though.
And how crazy is the head honcho at API? Actually putting a hit on Will and specifying that it should look like suicide by heroin overdose.
I like the relationships--they're realistic and interesting, and I even kind of like Will's artist girlfriend, though I keep thinking she's a kind of Mellie/November and is going to become a ninja any second.
Rubicon. My quality show. I have to have one.

16/10/10 01:44 (UTC)I'm so glad you're watching too. It's the most intriguing television I've seen in years--maybe ever. There's not a single face in it that's familiar to me, except the wonderful Miranda Richardson, so I feel I'm seeing something entirely new. I have no preset expectations of the actors or the writers, and they all continue to amaze and intrigue week after week.
We will have to discuss it together some more once the season has wound up--next week, is it? Eeee! I wish more people were watching (though I heard somewhere that it's been given a second season).
