I'm riding my bike to Lothlorien

sporky_rat is doing this, and that's where I got the idea. Instead of just logging boring old daily cycling miles on my Livestrong account, I'm going to ride from Rivendell to Lorien.

It's the Eowyn Challenge, wherein, inspired by Eowyn*, some women decided to break out of the cages they experienced from weight, health, and fitness issues, and log walking miles as if they were walking to Rivendell.

Since I started logging my food and exercise, I've ridden 418 miles, which is almost all the way from Hobbiton to Rivendell, so I figured today I'd set out from Elrond's place with the Fellowship.

On my ride today, instead of just going to the grocery stores, I've climbed out of the valley onto the moors and, at the Ford of Brúinen, turned south on ‘narrow paths among folded lands’.

I am so going to rewatch FOTR tonight! \o/

I'm kind of amazed at how much it has already changed my view of my humdrum daily bike rides!

It has totally changed the view of riding to work! Instead of cars, I'm dodging Nazgul!

what a fun way to look at it! and omg. i really need to rewatch all of the lord of the rings movies! plus the cute extras where they all love each other so much. lol!

I just sat and rewatched Fellowship and almost finished sleeve number one on my Gentleman's Cardigan. It was wonderful--really fun to re-watch. It's probably been three years since I did that.

I LOVE the commentaries and stuff. No matter how you look at it, there was a lot of love in the making of those movies, and after several years, when all the publicity and talk has died away, and we have some distance on all the hoopla that went on during the release period, that love still shows through. It really is a terrific movie.

What a fantastic way to chase away the boredom of the daily route and routine! I've got to find a way to break the boredom at the gym too. The more the sun comes out the more I hate being there every morning, walking to nowhere! You go Girl!!!

It's proof of the power of imagination that this little system actually does make the daily exercise more interesting. I would imagine, too, that if you were really into it (and why couldn't you make your own journey? From Alnwick to Seahouses, for instance?), you might actually push a little farther, go the extra few minutes on the machine, or couple of blocks in the city streets, so be able to imagine that you reached a particular way-marker in your story.

I rewatched Fellowship last night--first time in probably three years--and damned if LOTR isn't just chock-a-block with great lines, and great moments. And I love how the movies brought Eowyn to life so much better than the books did.

Today I'm going to be riding across the Folded Lands. I can't wait to get to Moria!
