In the One Thing Leads To Another category, my weekend seminar with Margaret Lynch (warning: cheesy website at that link, but it really was a great training) prompted me to start some serious voice work, which led to my having to fix microphone and pre-amp problems, which led to my admitting that I need to upgrade my operating system, which has led to massive file cleanup and backup.

I just finished downloading Ubuntu 12.04 (Passionate Platypus or whatever the hell the new P version is called) and after I try booting off the CD and testing things out, it seems likely that I'll be doing a complete operating system re-install.

Wish me luck. If I disappear from the internet, it's because I broke my computer.

Best of luck with that - I hate how just changing "one little bitty thing" seems to lead to completely rebuilding the whole system. LOL

It's going relatively smoothly (I'm online now with the new OS) but even so...HOURS of focused effort. It's a good thing I've had the last four days off work!

It's included in the distro! Isn't that awesome?

I don't actually use office software at home, but every now and then I do need to open someone else's .doc or .xls file, and it's sure nice to have a free option.
