25/6/13 03:02 (UTC)I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine that British readers of American-written fic in UK-based fandoms find all kinds of tiny misses. I've read several really cringeworthy diatribes about American fanfic writers blithely giving Harry Potter a senior prom, or having Sherlock drink an herbal tea, and other examples of complete cultural blinkeredness. That, I think, most people can overcome, but it's those little nuances--in the hospital versus in hospital, where it's "around" and where "round", that sort of thing, that eludes the most assiduous.
It's a wonderful thing to have a Real British Person beta one's fic in those instances.
