Yes! That was what bothered me too, though I wasn't quite able to put my finger on it. There are a couple of nuances to the problem, it seems to me: The first is non-professionals co-opting terms that should be reserved for seriously ill individuals, as a kind of shorthand labeling. The other is, say, Big Pharma extending the definitions of serious disorders to capture more consumers for their drugs.

(It may be that the latter problem is bigger in the US because drugs are constantly advertised, but certainly there's an identifiable motivation behind making every little "deviation from the norm" into a "real disorder" treatable by drugs.
