Reassembly

I can't decide whether the best invention ever right now is kneepads, utility knives, audiobooks or ibuprofen. All of these have played major roles in my life the last few days.



The bedroom is now fully primed, painted and wall-stenciled. As of an hour ago, the underlayment is in place--heat pads in the traffic areas, jigsawed in with plain padding, for a sort of duct-tape, blood, and gray-flannel patchwork quilt covering every inch of the floor.



Flooring and baseboards tomorrow. Window and door trim Monday. IKEA furniture order, delivery and assembly next week. Installation of light fixtures, outlets and ceiling fan next weekend.

The amount I'm looking forward to having a real bedroom again can be measured in giga-somethings. Maybe tera-somethings.

After that, I guess, I get to find out what's next in My Retired Life.

What an amazing project. I've been watching your progress and cheering you on, and I can't wait to see the finished room! (Bet you can't, either!)

Yes, I'm very ready to have it all done. For one thing, it's been occupying all my mental real estate, to the exclusion of my online life, my offline life, and most of my novel revisions. I have a one-thing-at-a-time kind of mind and am looking forward to moving on to some other thing.

I saw your tweet this morning about your novel plan. I'm excited to get caught up with what you've been working on!

I agree, home improvement is exhausting on many levels. Bet you smile and enjoy the results for years though.

Yep. The human mind has a wonderful capacity to forget pain!

It's not that bad, actually. I'm a bit stiff and sore today, but nothing that a pot of coffee, a bike ride in the sun, and some bacon and eggs won't cure. :D

Been following along - though alas not commenting much as work is taking up ALL my brain at the moment!

Can't wait to see the final results!

Several people in my circle are mid DIY projects and it's making me restless. But I'm not allowing myself to start a decorating project until (a) the garden is set for spring, (b) the allotment is mostly planted up and (c) I've had another pass at dejunking the attic!

Thank you for following along. I've been so wrapped up in this project that I haven't been following anyone else's, and I'm looking forward to getting more back to normal in that respect.

This is absolutely not the time of year for indoor projects if you're a gardener. Even I, who've pretty much abandoned my yard to its own devices, must put some thought and energy soon into at least a few annuals in pots.

How much more to go in dejunking the attic? (It's been a hell of a jigsaw puzzle, working in this tiny house with no spare space, but in general I'm glad I have no attic, no particular basement, and no garage, because they would all need dejunking.)
