::Flops exhaustedly to couch::

Over the last couple of weekends, I've made two trips to Home Depot, three visits to the corner hardware store, three jaunts to IKEA; I've used up 40 hollow-wall anchors, a Ryobi battery pack, a Philips screwdriver bit, and a quart each of drywall mud, primer, and paint; and I've required several ibuprofen tablets...

Area 1.2, Living Room TV Corner, started out here:

then took this detour:

but finally today arrived at its destination:

Meanwhile, Areas 3.1.a, b, and c, Kitchen Hardware Shelves and The Floor Underneath 'Em, which started out here:

are also completely finished, with help today from [livejournal.com profile] avventura1234:

Holy shit, that was a lot of work! That's FOURTEEN areas done now. Fifty-two more to go.

I'm going to bed.

I'm really getting into this. You'd think I'd be all about taking a break at this point, but I can hardly wait to get back at it. It's weird.

I don't know. I think to achieve the full effect of tidiness (or new decorations), you need to do everything. This is probably what makes getting started so flipping daunting!

Thanks! I got up this morning and surveyed it all in the sunshine. Yup, still looked good. All this neatness is going to take a little getting used to.

Hah! I wish I had my energy! I couldn't get to sleep without a handful of ibuprofen last night, and this morning, undoubtedly clumsified by my stiff, sore muscles, I tripped and fell on the sidewalk.

In short: I may have overshot just a bit. But by these fits and starts does my life progress, and by no other means.

OMG!!!! This is so amazing! Your place is becoming the most organized, neat, tidy place in the world! Maybe the Universe! I was thinking we could meet this weekend someplace near the half way point but I HAVE to come see the Project! You have inspired me to get moving on my own project over here in the North and see how I can pear down the messes I have been ignoring. Thank you for the insiration!

Come on down! See the soon-to-be Tidiest Place in the Universeā„¢. Hee! What a concept.

All I can say is: thin slices. Very, very thin slices. It's amazing how powerful that idea is.

Thanks. I'm reminding myself that "getting rid of my crap" doesn't necessarily have to mean "remodeling the house," and that not all my results have to be this labor-intensive. They can't be--I'm too sore this morning to do a whole lot more of this anytime soon.

Yep, and it's very towering! But not nearly so messy looking. I'm pretty pleased.

The lights in the shelves look so cool! Also, it's amazing how different it looks without the shelf standards. Good work!

Wow -- that corner turned out great!! So nice and clean with the shelves and the lighting. Looks so awesome that you could really just stare at that corner without the TV on at all. Well, almost. :) All hail IKEA!

(Also, you're right that the paint match is spot on...I'm impressed.)

And is that the LOTR trilogy on the top shelf? And either Angel or Buffy on the second? If I'm right, I don't know if that makes me awesome or appallingly dorky.

And the Collector's Edition of Serenity?

...

...

Okay, scaring myself now. Stopping, stepping away slowly, and doing something...else.

The very one. Hee! Don't be scared. At least you didn't recognize Earth2, the Complete Series.

I actually haven't watched the Collector's Edition. I put it on with commentary, and really found that I didn't want to listen to it. It might be another year or two before I really feel like seeing that movie again.

Firefly, on the other hand, I can watch regularly, at any time.

Hee! LOTR, all of Angel, a couple seasons of Buffy, Wonderfalls, Firefly, Serenity (both editions) and the Harry Potter So Far.

We're both dorky. What can I say? I too watched LOTR over the holidays.

The thing I'm really beginning to appreciate about IKEA is how sort of malleable its items are--you really don't have to wind up with an IKEA house.

And yes, my sitting place is diametric to that corner and I do sit and enjoy looking at it. I'm doing it right now, in fact. It's very satisfying.
