With moral support and actual hands-on help from my sister and my good pal Todd, I've completed the application for my retirement.

I've assembled hand-filled-out documents (that's a throwback), account numbers, proof of birthdate, beneficiary information, and a spreadsheet of how the money's gonna go. Tomorrow morning at the ungodly hour of 8:00 I catch a bus to the distant suburb where the Public Employees Retirement System has its offices, and at 9:00 I file.

By 10:00 tomorrow it should be official: I'll be a woman of leisure of January 1. Now I just have to figure out how to continue focusing even a little bit on my job between now and then.

O_O All that just to retire. *shakes head* They're trying to make people give up in despair so they don't have to fork over benefits, aren't they?

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Actually it turned out to be a smooth and well-assisted process. But since retirement from this system involves four different funding sources, the decisions and the tax implications can be a bit staggering.

Red tape usually stops me cold, but no amount of the stuff was going to stand in the way of me getting out of here!

OMG! Exciting.

I just had a phone call yesterday from HR saying that my application for voluntary redundancy has been approved. O.o They're going to send me the paperwork, apparently.
