Today's massive deluge was brought to you by Global Climate Change™.

The rain was so heavy and the skies were so dark that I could barely see highway signs. The roads were like rivers, except where they were more like lakes. One massive, car-shaking crack of thunder rocked the part of Clark County I was driving in, and I had to speak sternly to myself about the unlikelihood of lightning striking my particular car.

By the time I got where I was going, at least half an hour late, I was all out of sorts. Thankfully, it was lunch with [livejournal.com profile] roseambr and we made up for stress with tasty food, great conversation and a little shopping. (I bought eyeshadow! Whee!)

The more I ride my bike, the less I can tolerate driving my car, and on days like today the best answer of all is just to stay home and drink hot tea.

Which I shall now proceed to do.

Where do you live? There's a Clark County in Illinois. We had a beautiful day here, up around 70 and sunny. I actually have two new bright yellow marigolds in bloom!

I live in Oregon. The Clark County in question is across the river in Washington. Cool rainy days are not unexpected in November around here, but damn! This is getting kind of apocalyptic. The marigolds sound like a nice surprise.

Just to reassure you (if you didn't already know it), cars are Faraday cages. You'd have been fine inside the car.

Eyeshadow??! How girly. :) I bought perfume yesterday - First by Van Cleef and Arpels. Now, if only the theme to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly would stop playing in my head ...

Oh! I used to love First. When I lived in France, the elegant mama of the French guy I sort-of dated a couple of times took me to a Paris department store and made me try it. I think I owned a tiny flagon of the stuff for a time.

I'm a 1000 de Patou girl, myself.

And when your hair is as short as mine now is, makeup takes on a whole new dimension of importance.

Hey. I wear eyeshadow all the time and I've got enough hair for a haystack. I just don't have the type of face that can do without a lot of help!

I don't think I've ever smelt 1000. But since Mr K bought that perfume book, we've become perfume tarts, flitting from one to another.

(Catching up on my f-list, and was all excited to pipe up with "your car is a Faraday cage, not to worry!", but I see another very smart commenter has already, uh, commented. So.)

This last few days of rain has been in-sane. I love it, love it, love it. But wow. Yesterday, long-ago-scheduled girls' day with a friend precluded the staying at home curled up with a book and tea that would be my normal M.O. on a day such as it was, but I have to say, there was something quite delightful about being out in it (sort of). Or, to be more precise, something quite delightful about being in our particular corner of paradise. We had brunch at Elephant's Deli (she'd never been), then parked the car over on Everett and did the Everyday Music/Powell's/Sur la Table/Storable loop for 4 hours, and it was marvelous. We go soaked, but...I don't know, it was just awesome being inside soaking up the PNW fabulosity whilst a torrential downpour commenceth for the entire day without stopping, the sky so dark that the streetlights were on.

Which is all a very long-winded way of saying that I can quite relate to the lovely day it sounds like you had, and yay for the incomparable place we call home.

I think only being in the Faraday Cage (hee!) detracted from the day's pleasures. I do love a good storm, and that was a doozy. But not while driving. In the 'burbs. Of Clark County. *shudders* And I got lost! So all my cycling-instead-of-driving for weeks and weeks was undone by one stupid rural detour.

Sometimes I hate having ZERO sense of direction. One little bit of stress (like driving in that storm) and I am utterly and completely disoriented.

Your day sounds fab--that particular loop is a goody! Oh, and speaking of Sûr La Table, did I mention that [livejournal.com profile] roseambr and I have signed up for S's chocolate class on December 6? At least, I hope it's one of S's classes. But it's chocolate, so we're goin'.
