giandujakiss has pointed me to a place where I can order a custom chocolate bar.

You can too, at Chocomize (if you're in the US, I think). You select the type of chocolate and then start adding stuff like nuts and flowers and bacon or whatever, then you give them a credit card number, then they make your chocolate bar and ship it to you.

Mine? Milk chocolate, macadamia nuts, candied violets, and flecks of 24 carat gold.

I call it The Morgana.

OMG, now I have to think of a Merlin, an Arthur, and a Gwen.

That sounds fabulous in every sense.

Admittedly my experience of it is not vast, but I've not come across any US chocolate that I considered edible. How do you, with your Euro tendencies, feel about US choc?

There are some rather good local, small chocolatiers--Moonstruck is one here in town--working with great quality ingredients. Scharffen-Berger is made in San Francisco, and I like it a lot for baking.

But on the whole, I'll take French or Belgian before any other. Happily, Trader Joe's, a sort of odd gourmet grocery chain, carries big bars of Belgian chocolate--roughly of the Côte-d'Or ilk--at a price that justifies it for everyday eating and drinking.

I have no idea if the stuff behind Chocomize will be any good. I'll report.

There's actually a German company that invented this a few years ago, and they also just launched in the US. THey use chocolate from Belgium - http://www.createmychocolate.com

Oh, that's good to know. I went back and looked, and yes, Chocomize does use Belgian chocolate, so at a minimum, it will be decent.

It's a great idea. Like an ice cream parlor, only with chocolate.
