I just got my vacation request approved. Whoo hoo! UK in August, here I come.

Specific planning commences as soon as I see my tax refund. Confession: I've already started practice packing. Shut up. I'm not a total retent. I'm just...detail-oriented.

I'm aiming to fly on August 18, sleep on the 19th, and do London the 20th-25th or so.

There, I shall spend time with ravurian, ruric, and several other lovely folks who have expressed interest in a London meetup. Part of the plan is to take a day trip to Cambridge to a) see Cambridge a little and b) meet altariel.

Then south to friends in Sussex (who haven't heard this news yet--I should probably inform them, huh?), and finally to Scotland and chez kis, where there will be walking and dining and coastlines and a cottage and some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

BTW, I did not mean to imply that seeing kis or ravurian or ruric is NOT the first and last word in wonderfulness, just that I have met altariel on several occasions! She even stayed at my house once! And bought books from Book Sale!

Hee! Yes, I took no offense on behalf of any of our other British friends. I'm actually feeling very, very flattered at the willingness of Altariel, Communicator, and several others to make time for a visit with me in their busy schedules. These are people whose journals I've been reading for years and years, and whose wit and brilliance I admire enormously.

Isn't it amazing, the way this journal world has created community?

Wonderful! This is going to be an unusual trip, involving more meeting of people and less seeing of sights than is common for me. Sights are so much better seen in the company of friends who live near them!

I am really looking forward to this!

Just a quick update: I'm probably going to be catching up with a friend who is over in the UK on 20th, but all other dates still free.

I hope to be helping ravurian celebrate his birthday in London on the 20th, and my days after that are as yet unscheduled.

Only proviso would be that if you wanted to see the Fitzwilliam Museum, it's closed on Mondays, but there's plenty more to see and do in Cambridge, not least the colleges.

I already know exactly the route I'll take--from John's house in Marylebone to Tristan's house on Half Moon Street, to Hyde Park and then to John's studio in Bruton Street.
