Remember Haiti?

There are a LOT of calls on our charity these days, and as each fresh disaster sweeps in, it's hard to know where to focus.

Misha Collins decided to focus on Haiti, and will be taking the first 40 people who can raise five grand apiece (and all their own expenses) with him to that earthquake-ravaged country to help build a community center with their own hands.

Historical costume maker Harman Hay is one of those fundraisers, and she's got the coolest fundraising project ever.

She's making a gown--the most elaborate beaded 19th-century evening gown imaginable--



...beginning with the undies. As the pledges mount, she's creating the layers of the costume, and she has pledged to wear it--at whatever stage the donations have reached--to an international costume convention next winter.

So far she's raised enough for underdrawers, petticoat, corsetry, and undershirt. The Bust Improver (O.O) is next.

Please consider helping her get to Haiti with Misha! And though I'm sure she would carry off the Underwear-Only Look admirably at the convention, wouldn't it be cool to see that dress recreated?

I became acquainted with Harman Hay via Restraint, and her costume work is absolutely impeccable. She's an expert in historical foundation garments and has made some splendid things.

She's a big Misha and Supernatural fan, and she's putting her very considerable all into combining her passions in order to go help out in a badly-damaged area. I think she's just aces.

Having done a bit of beadwork myself, I can just imagine what's involved in that gown! It'll be a masterpiece when she finishes it.
