Dinner with friends

I never enjoy my town more than when lovely visitors come and seem to appreciate the place.

ranunculus and her friend D are visiting just outside of town for a few days, and made their way downtown (after a wine-country tour, no less!) to dine with me at Brasserie Montmartre. They live in San Francisco, so they know cities and restaurants, and they were kind enough to say that if for some reason they had to leave home, Portland would be their next choice.

So I'm all puffed up, more than usual, about My Little Town.

We had lovely French bistro food (including two different versions of the Bra's fabulous frites--one in duck fat, one in pork fat), Scotch whisky, Oregon wine, and loads of laughs and conversation. And lavender crème brûlée for dessert.

I finally saw them to the streetcar station not long before 9:00--the hours flew by.

Thank you, ranunculus and D. It was a fine evening.

The winery we were at today was the Willakenzie Estate. We LOVED the Kiana Pinot Noir.

Kirkwall was the name of the Orkney Island town. Had to look it up....

The point of the stories about M is that he has promised to start recording them so I can transcribe them. We have gotten as far as to get a hand-held dictation machine. Just what I need, another project! :)

Kirkwall! Gah. Thank you. It drives me nuts when a name escapes me like that. In my younger travel days I'd have never forgotten the name of such an exotic destination!

And yeah, you need another project. *eyeroll*

I'm so glad you enjoyed the wine and the dinner. Let's visit again soon!
