Guy next to me here at work has a counter on his door, today it's at 109. Instead of pulling numbers off, as he leaves he's sticking new numbers ON, so now he's got about an inch and a half of paper and tape jutting out from the door. Remarkable...
Wow. That's way more assiduous than me. I like the internet to do my work for me whenever possible. Which...you know, is why I'm retiring the first minute I can.
I wouldn't know what to do with myself. On the other hand, I'm 28 and have yet to actually start anything resembling a "real job", but I will soon. (This whole M.Div --> chaplain thing seems pretty real-jobby.)
So I will be watching closely to see what it is that smart, savvy retired folks actually do besides loiter in diners. (There's a story lurking.)
I was just having this conversation ten minutes ago with a good friend who is retiring right around the same time I am, and from the same organization. He said, and I so wholeheartedly agree, that if there were one thing I could go back and tell my 28 year old self, it would be to save just a tiny bit more money. Five bucks a week, whatever. Anything extra I could have possibly scraped out of my daily existence and put somewhere untouchable--savings bonds, an IRA--would have made a huge difference.
And I'll just add that I admire and kind of envy your calling. I never had one. Good luck!
