I approach poetry with a combination of impatience, diffidence, and awe. Like acting, the making of poetry is something I barely understand, something I'm aware of being talentless at myself. So when I encounter such a fresh and challenging poem as this one, I'm fascinated.
She's a master wordsmith, but more than that, she's got these huge, history-spanning notions about language and culture, and she's somehow able to weave them together: pain and HTML, Gutenberg and DNA, ink and wine, Rome and Silicon Valley.
Remarkable piece of work. Go. Challenge yourself. Give it a read.
