At last! My door has come along!

Me too! It was very satisfying to get Ed's final bill (it will be more satisfying to discharge it), and say, "Job well done!" Now as the last of the light fades and the temperature has plummeted to a mere 90 degrees, I am sitting in my back yard with my lovely orange door, and my fountain, and damned if life isn't pretty excellent.

I can't really complain--it's been awfully mild here for most of the summer, and I know most of the country has had it a lot worse.

And yet, I complain. I'm not a fan of summer heat.

I have an elaborate system of fans that goes into action at sunset and continues all night. It's amazing what a difference a box fan makes, sucking night air into the place. I hope you can dummy up some cross-ventilation for yourself.

I keep refreshing my weather widget. It just dropped to 86! It's marvelous. Plus I'm sitting outside, and mosquitoes be damned.

I have a window fan in the bedroom, which has been doing quite well--it has a thermostat, so it'll stop on its own some time between two and four, depending on how fast it cools down.

I'm facing the wrong way for the breeze, and it's a one-room-wide apt., shaped like a trailer, so the only other window is the sliding glass door on the balcony at the other end. That door is now open, and there's a fan going in front of it, as well, but I'll close it and turn off the fan before I go to sleep, usually. I get up early enough to have it run again in the morning before the heat hits that side.

According to the fan readout, it's 79 in here now, so I'm doing all right. Still not looking forward to another couple of days of this. I was going to sew...

Pretty much anything to do with fiber arts is miserable in hot weather.

Sounds like you've got as elaborate a cooling system as mine!

Thank you for posting those photos. The before is... not pretty. I can see why it was basically wasted space. The interim is very interimmy if that's a word, which I suspect it's not; and the present day shot is just delightful. I love the orange shade of the paint on the door. I did not realise that orange could be that subtle. And I love the view. Your back garden looks like a lovely place to hang out.

It was the single worst place in the whole house. Making it nice has changed the energy a LOT. Of course, now the second-worst place is in the top spot, and is going to cost a good bit more to fix, but, you know, one thing at a time.

The door was formerly my front door, and it was fashionable a few years ago around here to have a brightly painted front door in some feng shui shade in the red family. I opted for orange, since other parts of the house are in the purple and green parts of the color-wheel, and I've always loved that pumpkiny shade. It looks terrific in back with flower pots near it.

The new front door is in the process today of taking on a lovely espresso shade.
