Mo's Bacon Bar from Vosges Haut Chocolat: Applewood smoked bacon, alderwood smoked salt, 49% deep milk chocolate. I am eating a piece of one now.

It's...kind of gross, frankly. I love salt-and-chocolate combinations, but this is a one-time-only moment of whimsy. I was bored.

Is bacon-laced chocolate a sign of the decline and fall of human civilization?

My son insisted we try this a little while ago. I, too, love salty and sweet (chocolate covered pretzels are a favorite of mine) but I thought the bacon/chocolate combo was nasty. He, however, loved it. Go figure

I can almost see the bacon-donut combination they sell at Voodoo Doughnuts, because bacon and pancakes go great together. But the chocolate? Yeah, not so much. I ate two squares of the bar and it actually made me think twice about eating any other chocolate.

That might be its purpose! Aversion therapy!

I've seen a lot about voodoo donuts on various travel/food shows. I'm not sure I'd go for their bacon one though when some of the others were available.

I've only ever eaten one of their donuts, about two years ago. I think my pancreas is still recovering.

Consider that they open at midnight or something, in a part of downtown rife with hipster bars and street life. From my own memories of my long-ago drinking days, nothing is too far over the top at chucking-out time.

For what it's worth, I didn't like the 49% milk chocolate bacon bar, either; I was disappointed and felt it would've gone better with a dark chocolate. Three months later, Vosges released a 62% dark chocolate bacon bar that tasted much better to me.

I saw that one in the shop this afternoon, but, being more of a milk chocolate fan, I went with that. I'm not sure a darker chocolate would solve the fundamental problem of the bacon for me (though I came home and had bacon for dinner, so it's not as if I dislike the stuff!).

What's amazing is the variety of chocolate-based creations out there. I remember when Hershey Bars were just about the whole picture.

I don't so much get the bacon-chocolate combination, but I had a pretty nice dark chocolate with sea salt bar the other day.

Oh, that sounds lovely! I'm a fan of the sea-salt chocolate caramels that they sell at the same shop where I got the bacon bar, and I love salted almonds coated in chocolate.

But chocolate-covered meat? Turns out to be as unappealing as I thought it would. What possessed me to buy it is a mystery.
