I have serious subjects to discuss. I do!
It occurred to me this afternoon at my gentle, beginner yoga class that when you do yoga that way, you're doing it the hatha-way.
I am insane.
This is because I watched episode 2.03 of Lewis last night, "A Life Born of Fire," and a show that up to know has merely charmed and amused me a bit suddenly threatened to become a raging conflagration of fannishness.
Does anyone have an icon of Hathaway slouching back on his couch, all depressed and angry, and playing his guitar? Because...IDEFK. It's love.

16/3/12 00:09 (UTC)Did you happen to see Endeavour, the one-off with young inspector Morse, set in 60s Oxford? I mention it because the writing of it--the sort of lovely, round completeness of it, was comparable to "A Life Born of Fire." It was a terrific show.

15/3/12 22:12 (UTC)Re: Lewis
15/3/12 22:43 (UTC)And it's like Sherlock in that each episode is a little feature film. I love the short season and the emphasis on quality. I love the Oxford setting--the relentless beauty of it. The female characters, if rather secondary, are very good (though the poor medical examiner must have gotten tired of delivering her "time of death" line), the music is gorgeous, and oh, Hathaway, you mysterious, locked-up, control freak.
There's been only one clinker so far (the utterly mystifying and muddy one about East Germans and Wagner and the Stasi), but boy oh boy did the next one make up for it!
Great stuff.

Heh, this is my tv's desktop image. He's absolutely breathtaking in that scene, isn't he? I was telling eli that that specific moment made me want to take up drawing or painting for the sole purpose of capturing him like that, all stretched out and angst festing.
And now that you've made it to Life Born of Fire (which: wow, yes), here, have a vid:

I did it backwards. I saw the vid on my flist and went "what is this show? I must watch it now."

16/3/12 01:57 (UTC)Breathtaking is the word--for that scene and the whole episode. One of the things I'm loving about this show is its incredible restraint. It doles out tiny bits of personal story for both of the main characters, always subordinate to the A plot, so you're just hungry for more and you stay up too late watching the next episode and are late to work the next day...
*ahem*
Yes, the neck porn alone in that guitar-of-angst scene surpasses all neck porn everywhere. Then you notice the rolled up trouser cuff, the socks, the practically Victorian glimpse of ankle, and it's just awesome.

I dunno about you, but the idea makes me feel strangely more bendy. :D

16/3/12 03:52 (UTC)One time I checked my flist immediately before departing for yoga and someone mentioned Eye of the Tiger in a post. Yoga, while in a "I WANT TO RUN A MARATHON AND THEN PUNCH THINGS AND THEN MAYBE LIFT A CAR OVER MY HEAD, RAWR!!!!!!" mood, is interesting. Not particularly yoga-y. And then the next class I was all "whatever happens, do NOT think about Eye of the Tiger because remember last week and how unhelpful that was and JUST A MAN AND HIS WILL TO SURVIVE, RAWR!!!!!" And then the next class was all "no, but, seriously, do not start associating Eye of the Tiger with yoga because... OMG RAWR!!!!!"
...I may have repeated that cycle for 5 weeks. It was ridiculous. It's probably for the best that I'm not doing yoga just now because I'd inevitably vicious circle myself into associating yoga class with frantic Hathaway porn and be similarly distracted and not at all thinking about poses and quiet times.
