My Rothko walls, part 3

*slumps*
Well, the walls are all painted. I'm too tired to take pictures, and besides, all the tape and plastic is still up. My armchair and four large bags of clutter to be donated are out on the porch and I'm sitting here in the kitchen, staring, a little too tired to go to bed.
Naturally, painting has led to more decluttering. I like the walls so much that I don't want to put anything back up on them. I'm getting rid of a ton of books, most of my DVDs, my home-theater-in-a-box (which includes the DVD player), and the stand my TV's been perched on since I bought it. I'm thisclose to getting rid of the TV itself, since I can't even remember the last time I turned it on. But car-less AND TV-less? I'm not sure I'm prepared to be that un-American.
Okay, time to go scrape some of the paint off my feet and go to bed.

30/4/12 18:34 (UTC)That said, when I do want to see something, I get it via my laptop, so it's not like I've totally given up television content. Mostly, I haven't seen commercials, and that fact alone has changed my life, very much for the better.
I've decided to keep the monitor, however. It was a goodish investment and I'm considering putting it into service as big electronic picture frame.

30/4/12 09:43 (UTC)I envy your ability to part with books - I still can't bring myself ot grt rid of them, though I have had more success with DVDs (the fire substatially reduced my collection and then I realised a hard drive crammed with avi files takes up a LOT less space than shelves of DVDs). Currently I am down to oe small cupboard of DVDs and slowly reducing it.
I got rid of my TV back in 2008 since I watch everything on the laptop and I can honestly say I don't miss it. *G*
Now if I could just thin down my knick knacks ad ornaments and pottery and things! I shall resume tacklign it all when I get back to London *G*

30/4/12 18:46 (UTC)I've given some thought to a massive external drive, and I don't rule it out (we're down to less than $100 per terabyte now), but really, the cloud takes up even less space and is even less subject to failure, theft and fire. Entertainment technology has become so incredibly transitory that it seems silly to invest a dime in so much as a new thumb drive. I just paid Google $5 for a year's cloud storage of several gigabytes, and you know cloud storage is just going to get cheaper and bigger.
IDK...
For the moment, I'm keeping the big monitor, getting rid of most of the books, and jettisoning a bunch of outdated tech gear while I'm at it. I'm keeping Firefly and Serenity for sentimental reasons. :D

30/4/12 10:01 (UTC)a little too tired to go to bed.
I hate that feeling.
But car-less AND TV-less? I'm not sure I'm prepared to be that un-American.
Yeah, they might take your passport off you. :)
I hope you sleep well, all the better to appreciate the fruits of your labours on the morrow.

30/4/12 18:48 (UTC)I just couldn't bear to take down all my shelves and pictures, clean all the corners, paint the room freshly, and then just bung everything back where it was. Might as well make a big drama out of it! LOL
