Hi everyone. It's my birthday! Which, after 57 previous ones, isn't all that big a deal. But I took the day off work, had acupuncture, went out to breakfast-for-lunch, got my nails done, and came home in the very cold December evening to eat really rather a lot of French chocolate.

I was dreadfully sick last week--like bedridden-and-housebound for six days, miss-Thanksgiving-dinner level sick. It was mostly just the worst cold in the world, I think. At the nadir of it I ruptured an eardrum and had conjunctivitis in both eyes, so I was half-deaf and half-blind and it was generally awful. (Bragg's raw apple cider vinegar, diluted on a cotton pad and wiped along the lower lid, stings like hell but makes short work of the pinkeye, by the way.)

Long story short, I'm a million percent better now, though still a bit hearing impaired in the one ear. Back to breathing, sleeping, and riding my bike.

Had to call in sick this morning: I feel like there's a wrestler sitting on my chest, Rhinovirus The Mighty or someone. I sound like a bullfrog. I'm eating chicken soup. It's pathetic.

[personal profile] ravurian has hooked me on Being Human, and though I really do try to limit my TV-show intake, I'm afraid I've scarfed up all of Series 1 and most of Series 2 in the last couple of days. It's wonderful! Brings back memories of some of the best and most thoughtful aspects of Buffy and Angel (I think some of the hommage is actually quite specific), while being its own unique take on monsters.

If you haven't seen it, "A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost walk into a bar..." might easily have been its starting premise, but, like Misfits ("There are these delinquents, see, with really crap super-powers...:), it takes the joke to some very dark places, with some excellent writing and acting. Also like Misfits, Being Human is very funny, though it lacks those American-style "Okay, laugh here" cues that this American viewer is used to.

Okay, soup is consumed, keyboard-unfriendly navel orange awaits, and I think I'll go finish off Series 2. Thanks, [personal profile] ravurian!

Inasmuch as I'm feeling a bit invalidish today, it's nice of January to act like April. I'm sitting out on my porch soaking up vitamin D in the hope that it will make shorter work of the cold that has settled, as my colds always do, in my lungs.

I'm not wrapped in an afghan, nor am I in a rocking chair, nor do I have tea (that last omission owing mostly to the lack of milk in my fridge today), but there is a cat lying in the sun next to me, and any second now I'm gonna take my cane and go threaten the Weiner Dog of Unending Yippitude who lives across the street and is spoiling my outdoor moment. So there's not a lot lacking to complete the Old Lady image.

Gah! I think I'd better get on my bike and go somewhere. Coughing be damned.
